Assign clear responsibility. Determine who should handle registrations, either internally or externally. Many vendors will handle them. But you'll typically pay for their overhead and profit, and may end up shuffling more paper.
Provide simple notice. If you start conducting business in a state, notify the person responsible for registrations. Be careful about what constitutes doing business. It doesn't take much.
Research common requirements. Registration with the secretary of state almost always is necessary. Other registrations may be required at the state, county or municipal level, depending on the nature of your business. These other registrations generally arise from similar sources. They are fairly easy to find.
Deliver the data and stash it away. Provide the information required by the application and store and maintain it. Registrations generally require the same or similar information (for example, officers, directors and date of formation). This information can be useful for other purposes (e.g., insurance). If you keep it in one place and maintain it, you'll save time.
