Forms are good. Forms are evil. Bring out the good in your form.
"Does a lawyer really need to look at that?" This is a fundamental legal cost-management question. No lawyer, no cost. But what happens if something goes wrong?  You can have the best of both worlds. Here are three quick tips for contracts:
  • Focus on your basic form. Forms are evil. Forms are good. Bring out the good in your form. Have a lawyer quickly tailor it to your company. Simple. Easy. Economical. And then you'll have a great starting point.
  • Incorporate best alternatives.  Incorporate bracketed best alternative language into your form. This allows business people to resolve many issues without lawyer involvement. Consult lawyers only for unique issues. Save more money.

  • Don't be tyannical. On the subject of starting point, be reasonable. Some say begin from an extreme. I say come to the middle immediately. Then hold the line. Save time. Avoid frustration. Reduce costs. And you'll end at precisely the same point you would have ended had lawyers haggled exhaustively. Without paying for it.
